Thanks for the information everyone, its been useful to know what others are towing ... It looks like we are going to go with a 2010 Swift Challenger as it ticks all the boxes we wanted on internal layout, its newer than we were going to go, but its got a motor mover fitted and has the Alko Chassis with ATC and a few other extras in the deal ...
Cant wait to get the car back from the garage and take delivery of the Caravan in a few weeks |

If the caravan has the Alko hitch, you will need the Alko towball to go with it. Find out before you go to collect or you may not be able to tow it home. The Alko lowball sits slightly higher on the flange than a standard 50mm towball

I have gone for a detachable type with a swan neck to minimise bumper cutting and so I can remove it when not in use ... The caravan dealers has told me this will be fine for the Alko hitch ... Time will tell when I pick it up in a few weeks |

Most/ likely all - swan necks are fine, but the fixed balls vary in their clearance at this point. My original fixed ball would have been mostly fine, but I changed it for one with proper Alko clearance. A further point is that the Alko system squeezes the ball/ has friction pads designed to only work on a bare steel ball, so all of the paint needs to be sanded carefully off the ball, before it is used with an alko and you have to make sure no oil of grease is allowed to get on the ball.
