BAH!! The car is going for MOT this Saturday ,and I have discovered that the rear silencer support bracket has come off, and taken a small bit of silencer with it. All it needs is a small patch welding over the hole, and the bracket re welded on to the silencer. I can weld with gas bottles, although its a long time since I have done it, and can use an arc welder, which I own, but cant use a mig,and the arc welder is too strong for welding exhausts, it will just blow further holes in it. In the absence of someone local being able to do it for me, looks like I will just have to let them fail the car, and get them to do the repair for me next week sometime.

Good morning Richard, sorry to hear about your exhaust problems. I don't know much about welding and am going to ask you what method gives the best weld. Is it MIG?

By coincidence my 4X4 needed to have the back box welded on for the 3rd time. I always carry fencing wire with me in case it comes off when I am out in the bush so that I can wire it back on again.

The car leads a hard life and just replaced the drive shaft both sides, upper and lower ball joints, both rear shock absorbers, tracking and realignment.

If there is any welding to be done underneath the car, what some of the locals do is to flip the car over onto its side.

If you don't have the time to get the welding done and you speak to the MOT tester about it, perhaps he can give you some flexibility and put it down as an advisory, just a thought.

I managed to find a garage where they don't flip the car .....yikes!
