Default Brake pad warning light stays on

Hi Guys (and Gals)

My brake pad warning light came on recently so checked my front pads and sure enough there was very little left on the inner pads so I changed all the front pads.
Unfortunately i managed to brake a bit off the sensor plug taking it out but managed to reconnect it anyway.

I checked the rear pads but there was plenty of meat left on them.

Problem is the brake pad warning light still comes on and it still comes on with the front wear sensor cable disconnected!!

Someone told me to check the brake fluid level as this uses the same warning light but that is on the max mark.

My car is an 05 Connie SE 1.8 T Auto.
The warning light is the circle with the 2 pads either side and no letters on the middle (ie it isnt the abs warning light)

Any ideas??

Thanks

you need to change the sensor plug when renewing the pads.

The brake pad warning sensor has to be renewed at the same time it is not reusable.

I suspect having it disconnected presents the same signal as when it is worn through and severed ?

no it shouldn´t,,it earths out on the brake disc that completes the Circuit,,so not connecting one should have no effect and the light should stay off .unless rover had there own different system to everyone else.

Pretty sure that they use a loop system, so as the sensor wears through and breaks the loop, the light comes on.

It doesn't earth on the disc, it is a closed circuit system, the sensor has a tip with a wire loop in it, as the pad wears away so does the tip, eventually breaking the loop which breaks the circuit and the warning light is switched on. As said above, a new sensor is required.

That's what I'm thinking . The setup Dustybin describes is too simple for Rover , and would allow us to reuse the sensor !!!!!

older cars use the brake disc to earth out the wire and put the light on. The 75 as allready said works on a loop
