you can pull the hub forward on the shaft expansion tripod and lift the wishbone square, she will fly in then... just compress the spring to shorten the strut in place and you will be laughing...

Totally agree with Brian doing this job on car ramps keeping the weight of the car on the suspension makes realigning the bolts so much easier I know this won't help the OP now but for anybody doing the job in the future well worth taking note :xmas-smiley-024:

Couldn't find my big G clamp - found it afterwards . But managed the job by disconnecting at the outer ball joint and moving the hub carriers forward and clear of the wishbone. The gave loads of easy wiggle room and with a couple of goes and a bit of swearing, some contortionism ( at one point getting the front bolt in the nearside involved two hands a foot and a 30 mm combination spanner as a lever) I got the job done. The final tightening of the bush bolts was done with the arm reconnected to the hub carrier and jacked up under the knuckle to compress the suspension.
Got the front pads changed as well - after going back to ECP 'cause I'd got the wrong ones. Are the ZT ones different from the 75? looks like I'd got ones for 2.5 zt CDT instead of for a 75. funnily enough they looked exactly the same as the rears? perhaps ECP catalogue is wrong. Best check any pads collected before you leave. Any way all back down sat on the rubber. We'll go for a test spin tommorrow and see if there's an improvement. Had to relax with a shower and bottle of scotch - Unlike yesterday which was nice and mild - I don't think the frost fully thawed today. Thank god for insulated work trousers

Know what you mean about the cold - MOT is up next week and been doing the brakes today on the drive. Just got a front wheel bearing and back box left to do. Could be worse - a few years ago I did a clutch out in the snow. |

Front arm rear bush assembly
Can the rear bush unit be fitted without removing the wishbone?

Oh Dear!
My new bushes arrived from Rimmer Bros. this afternoon. Spent two hours trying to undo the bolts on the nearside and another two trying to get the back bolt to bite. Front bolt no problem, but the back one seems to bite and then... Now I just read this post I was doing it with axle stands and don't have ramps. It's back to trying again tomorrow. Anyone got any suggestions? Please... Ivor |
