Default Rover 75 V6 Con. Cutting out at low speed?

My Rover 75 2.5 V6 Con. has just been into the garage to have the stat housing replaced, a good job was done and it drove away nicely. The following day it started first time and pulled away ok (downhill) but as soon as any torque was required the engine cut out? It re-started immediately without any problem and ran OK on the flat or downhill.

I'm not technically minded at all but seem to think that this could be related to the VIS motors?

A bit flakey perhaps, but this is based upon the fact the garage had the manifold off and the VIS is related?

Can anyone assist here with confirming this or suggest what could eb the issue and if this is an expensive job?

Unlikely to be VIS related, they alter the path of the air in the manifold. is it the same warm and cold?

Ian,

Since this fault occurred the day after the garage had worked on your car, it is very possible that their work is responsible. I would start by taking it up with them. To replace the thermostat housing on a V6 the entire intake and fuel rail system needs to be removed. It may be an innocent mistake such as forgetting to reattach a breather hose. If you're not technically minded, best let them look at it first.

Simon.

Dave,

This happens either warm or cold? As mentioned, it will pulled away ok on a slight downhill but as soon as I needed to turn and go up it cut out. It does start on the hill ok but as soon as you engage 1st and try to pull away it cuts out again.

At the time I managed to limp it around to be on the flat and it was ok - at very low speed - put torque on it and its gone

Simon suggested it could be a disconnected breather pipe; at the risk of appearing totally dim, where would I start looking for this to at least either identify or eliminate this?

Anyones help here is appreciated

I'd be surprised if a disconnected breather hose would cause the engine to cut out (??). One thing worth considering is that it may be an early symptom of Fuel Filter Syndrome. With a slightly detached filter, there may be enough fuel pressure to start the engine, but as soon as any load is applied, it will stall. Just my thoughts. If it gets to the stage where the engine fails to start, get right onto FFS and FOC.
