Default Boot lock

Discovered my boot locks not locking properly. I can close the boot and it locks, but I can put any key or bit of metal in the lock and it will open? Obviously security is of main concern.

Any ideas?

Sounds like someone has forced it. Try the key in the drivers door lock, and make sure that lock is ok.

If it's the boot lock that is knackered, you can order a new lock, but I suspect it won't be cheap.....

The boot can be opened with the key once the car is deadlocked using the keyfob. The alarm and deadlock re-engages when you shut the boot.

As for being able to use a piece of metal, would indicate the lock barrel is worn out. Just my opinion, no facts to back it up..

Try open the boot and get some one to press the boot release button in the car to see if the lock is locking , i have a mk1 with no key hole for the boot but have heard that the pins in the barrel do stick try wd40 and is there a manual release cord for your car??

All the other car doors are locking correctly its just the boot.

When I hit the boot unlock button next to the dash, I get nothing. I'm not sure if the barrel is knackered, or its something else. I took the cloth of the back of boot and gave the lock a good dosing in WD but still no improvement. The deadlocked theory could be right, but not sure how to fix this.

Just to make it clear I can open the boot with pretty much anything, when I shut it, it clunks and locks, but then I can use anything to turn the barrel with ease and open. It may need a new lock but funny how the boot button won't work? I'm sure it'll have something to do with the cars stolen recovered history.

For got to mention that when the car was recovered, they had to break the drivers side window, and a new key was cut. I don't have remote central locking, I can only turn the drivers side barrel, but this does active the central locking, just not remotely. Just added this in case it could be related.

as long as the key has the barcode, it can be coded to the car via the testbook.
and you'll have remote locking.

If you remove the kick panel where the switch is, the usual problem is the plug coming off the back of the switch.

Ok you mean the boot switch next to the dash, you think a plug may have come off. Could this be the cause of the barrel opening with anything though?

Ok the switch button is fixed you were right the cable was just disconnected.

Still the barrels turning, as if it thinks anything I put into it and turn is the cars actual key. There's not resistance whatsoever. Do we think new lock?

You'll probably have to remove the lock now n see if it can be dismantled. Stocktake is probably the man for the job......
