Diagnostics Thermostat question...
Went in to the Diagnostics a little while ago, got down to 7 (temp & speed section) but 7.0 - which should give data on coolant/engine temp - was blank - and just showing _ _ _ _ _
The car hadn't been driven for 24 hours, but I thought the data was stored... I'm doing this to potentially improve mpg, and wondered if the lack of data indicated a dodgy or kaput thermostat. Advice anyone.... |

Did you start the car? I think I'm right in saying it has to be running for this test.

Yes you got to the correct item. Start up, then temp shows.

That doesn't sound right to me. The diagnostic screen should show the current temperature with or without the engine running.
Did you read the latest revision? http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=55585 Does your temperature gauge work normally? TC |

My understanding is the same as that of yours TC - namely that the data should show whether engine is running or not. As to your latest revision, I did read that after I did my test, and will try "your" way tomorrow. I did note that these two steps were reversed, in your version, in comparison with the previous guidance. - Put key into ignition and turn it to position - Press and hold the trip reset button. I did not intend driving with diagnostic mode active, so I did not start the engine - but if I do need to start it, as Gerfix and DerekS suggest, do I leave it running until the temp gauge on the dash goes up as high as it can? Thanks Leander |

The ignition has to be on
ie in Second position, but the engine doesn't have to be running

Second position in ignition makes sense right enough. I only ever tried with P1 and engine running.
