The exact same was said by members of the EDL and NF today who decided to go down to Swansea where my son studies. 50 of the above turned up at around 1:30 and were met with a united front of around 500 people from all backgrounds who told them where they could shove it!

Well on one side of my ’tree’ there were Scottish forebears. On the other Welsh. Way back there were two French. By one definition on this thread that means I’m not English. I have to say I resent that but consider it a part of the price to be paid for living in a mature, tolerant and civilised society. Mostly, that is. On every Census I have ever filled in, if English was not mentioned as an option, I have added it and ticked the box. So there. I invite prosecution for lying to the state.

Just so this, my final, qualifies as ’on topic’, I must protest at the continual cynicism about the so called ’Right’ and their alleged robbing of the poor and downtrodden, and the disadvantaged and infirm by way of a slanted benefits system. Also, repeated references to particular newspapers as if their critics ever have anything constructive to say. Since when was a Socialist or ’Left’ state benevolent? Their hierarchies are riddled with self seeking apparatchiks and commissars, with their noses in the trough, required by the state to propagandise the masses to provide the very same soft living that the ’right’ are accused of.

The problem is not the origin of species, what a disgusting corner to fight. It’s rather how you differentiate the needy from the greedy. In my view that is dead easy. You first need politicians who are not self-serving, who recognise the commonalities that bind us and not the differences that break us. And to hell with the zealots - on both sides.

When they started out to improve the lot of the working class, as opposed to those that were a political ideology. The Labour Party when it started was just such an organisation, but of course it had to become political to carry through its plans. It subsequently lost its bearings when the politics became more important than the people. It has now got to the point, as you say, where the politicians are more important than even the politics.

There were also Tories and Liberals who could be classed as socialists, particularly in the areas of housing, health and education for the masses. The Liberals also brought in the first state pensions, albeit on a very small scale.

The newspapers don't interest me, they just peddle their version of what they think will sell their rags, broad or not, and we all know that.

As for the Right, they are the excessive 'takers' in society. I don't actually think of them as right wing though, they're just consumed with greed and self interest. They get off screwing as much out of the majority of people as they can. More and more with globalisation they don't care about the country, much less the people. In my view they are the cause of most of what ails the world now.

That will never happen, as generally it is human nature for people to seek self aggrandisement and raise their self above the masses.

Every politician originally started out with ideals of fair treatment and better conditions for the members of their constituencies but as soon as they get into 'power' they are corrupted and persuaded by big business and other self serving entities to serve their own interests.

Remember it is Great Britain PLC and the masses are there to be exploited and provide cannon fodder for the ruling classes, to keep them in power.

A line from Dire Straits Industrial Disease seems apt : " They wanna have a war to keep us on our knees , they wanna have a war to stop us buying Japanese... They give us gassy beer, Page three and Sunday striptease"
