Default Caravan Insurance recommendations...

As above, looking for recommendations for who to go with for caravan insurance. Getting quotes ranging from £130 to £350 at the moment, no idea what I'm looking for really. At the moment the favourite would probably be through the caravan club, for £151, but I don't know if thats a good quote as for the cover or what specifics I should be looking at for the cover. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

The caravan club I quite good, to get their prices you have to be a member though, and I you don't use any of their other services it makes it expensive!

I used the CC Insurance and enjoyed being a member - so whilst membership is another cost - it all worked for me.

I had used NFU - BUT!! realised that the awning and awning contents were not covered by their policy whereas the CC policy covers everything.

The NFU do not cover larger caravans either - when we bought a twin axle Senator Wyoming the refused to insure it. It was only then that I realised just how limited their cover was.

One company to avoid like the plague is E&L - not sure if the still trade - they were appalling offering policies for Pets, and horsey stuff as well as caravans etc. that were not worth the paper they were written on.

Thanks, I'll probably go with the Caravan Club quote. The £151 was without being a member, I'm going to join anyway to save the £12 a night for their sites, and I'm sure I saw somewhere that they offer driver training which would be very handy. I'll join up and hope that brings the quote down a bit more....

Thanks

My mistake, keep getting the 'Caravan and Motorhome Club' confused with the 'Camping and Caravanning Club'. Anyway, now joined the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and while their quote of £300 was a long way from being the cheapest, it did seem to offer things that would be good if we were unfortunate enough to have the caravan stolen while away or have an accident. So gone with them for insurance too.

I don't like their sites, I prefer CL's. more space, more open but generally less in the way of facilities

Been with Caravan Guard since day 1, 10 years ago . You can choose the level of cover you want, its like bronze silver and gold cover. Or you can go new for old, up to 15 years old, or market value.

"Here are some common issues to consider prior to opting for a caravan insurance

how will the van be used - 6-months a year, 3-months a year, occasionally;
where will the van be stored/garaged;
how will the van be stored/garaged;
what are the circumstances when the van is used that SHOULD/MUST be covered by the policy;
in some way, where will the van travel;
what if the van is to be used for extended travel - eg a year, two years, full-time;
what are the inclusions, and more importantly the EXCLUSIONS, in the policy;
will any of these exclusions impact on how you know, or think, you will use the van;
what items are covered, or not covered, in the contents aspect of the policy;
approach as many companies as you can for a quote (price)
purchase the policy that CLOSEST/BEST meets the requirements that meet how YOU will USE your van; and
if their van policy is close to what meets your requirements - do they have a 'multi-policy' arrangement that you may be able to adopt.
Hope these tips will be useful for you!"
