Default 1999 75 2.0lt KV6 Auto - Winter Project

I am looking at the possibility of a project, and a potential vehicle has just came up locally. It's a 1999 2.0lt KV6 Auto with highish mileage, leather interior and all the usual trimings. I might just save it from the scrap heap.

The owner has mentioned that there is water in the oil and he thinks the head gasket may have gone. On the water leak, I don't know how much and how quick the coolant leaks. Are there any specific areas I should be looking at other than the leaking hose pipe clips, water pump, heater matrix, thermostat housing etc.
Would it be possible for an automatic gearbox oil cooler to leak water into the engine, has anyone experienced this?
