Oil Changing.
Just changed the oil, the conventional way. I don't want to scrabble around underneath anymore so what does the team think of of 12v simple pumps? The Pela pump is very popular I know but this would pump straight into an empty oil can ready for the tip.

I prefer to change the oil the old fashioned way, doing it this way means every drop comes out.

My wriggling underneath days, if you'll pardon the expression, are over. Now it's oil and filter with every MOT. And I'm watching from the convenient waiting room for every drop and a proper filter.
Have to say, 1st National 'forgot' twice about the oil! Now go elsewhere.

As I have a 2.0 litre V6, although it is possible to get the oil filter off via the wheel arch (fiddly and messy job), I prefer to drive it up my modified ramps, whip off the undertray and drain off that way. It makes the job much cleaner and easier. As said above, you get all the old out completely and can inspect other things whilst the undertray's off. I've just done the ATF and have replaced a couple of rusty mounting screws and waterproof greased all the fittings. Some folks have difficulty refitting the tray but I just pop the middle on some wooden supports and work my way from front to back, moving the "woods" as I go. If the fixings are looked after, it's a five minute job. Mike

I use one of these!
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/4-Litre-Oil...5718365&chn=ps really easy, gets all the oil out. Due to health issues, there is no way I could do the normal messy business oil change. One issue, the pipe is too thick to go down the dipstick tube on my Suzuki Splash, however, as someone on here had a real problem using a thin tubed electric pump, it's probably for the best.

Guess I'm too lazy (and too old) but I just want an easier way. My undertray is cut back to expose the drain plug so no issues there, my drive is steep and 'in the street' is a no no. For the cost of a powered pump I think I'll try it, should be quicker at least.

I did an experiment a while ago with one of these pumps, once it had finished removing all the oil it could I them jacked the car up and removed the drain plug, I was expecting a bit of oil but at least another litre came out so that convinced me I would never use one.
When you do an oil change there is always going to be some residue inside the engine but leaving 1 litre or more in there is not a good idea in my view. |
