I guess you could say they were the Rover 75 of the era: executive sized saloons, hatchbacks and (IMO) rather stunning coupes, with a selection of engines and equipment levels. The range topping Rover 800 (the Sterling) had a pretty generous spec, which included:

High quality leather interior
Remote central locking with lazy locking
Electric windows, sunroof, mirrors and tailgate release
"Follow me home" headlights
Climate control
Cruise control (V6 engines only)

Once upon a time they were used by chauffeur-driven, high ranking government types.

Much to our surprise, the bidding on this car is going very well, and the window of opportunity for a quick £500 sale has now gone, so we will let it run and see where it gets to. We hope the final bidder is forthcoming!! we shall see.

Hi Lynn,

Well done, the car looks great.

Should we have a sweepstake to guess what the final sale value will be?

I will guess........

........£804

I'm about 8 feet away from this car at the moment. Anyone here interested?

Hi Lynn,

I dropped out of bidding at £520, wish I'd bought when I was down there but couldn't sort parking arrangements at the time.

It's a fine example of the Sterling and I'm sure the winning bidder will be pleased.

Good luck with the sale.

Now you've seen the car you may wish to reconsider you're scathing comments about my OP, because the way you've worded your latest post you seem to be giving it a bump. which is what I was doing.

When I posted I'd seen the car but you had not so had no right to attack me the way you did.

Yes I wanted the car, money was not a problem, homing it was.

By the time I'd sorted the homing problem, the price had risen to beyond what was sensible for me.

All in all, this post by you has vindicated me, end of, I hope.

Default Don't let a small matter of £150 stop you alanjay!!

alanjay - I've watched a lot of auctions as they end and whilst a lot of auctions end with a flurry of bidding activity and whopping increase in price, this does not seem to be the norm for cars of this nature.

I bet this sells for less than £650. Should you really allow a matter of £150 to stand between you and this car if it is really the car for you?

If I were you I'd wait until the last 15 seconds of the auction and place your maximum bid at that time (or using a sniping software to do it for you). You may well still come away with a bargain.

The implication that the club is full of cheap skates - that's what I objected to.

I'm also considering the insurance payout if the worst should happen, about £400, love the car but have to be sensible.

A disingenuous response by you, I was not implying the club is full of cheapskates, just saying it lacked people who recognise a bargain.
You've now seen the car but cannot admit you were hasty in your judgement of me, so be it. I stand by my OP and am happy for you to stand by your point of you.
Unlike you, I am not judgemental.
