Default Connecting old type DVD recorder to TV

Hello,

I would like, if possible, to connect an old VHS/DVD recorder to my modern TV. Please see attachment of VHS/DVD recorder rear panel. My TV is an LG that is connected to my Goodmans HD freesat box by an HDMI cable.
Any input would be appreciated.

I would only want to record a program on rare occasions and was given the old VHS/DVD recorder, which I thought would fit the bill.

You would need to connect your recorder to the freesat box via scart (does it have one?) or component (the small round connectors) so that the recorder has a signal to record. You will then need to connect the recorder to the TV via scart so that you can see what the recorder is doing.

You would continue to watch normally in HD through the HDMI cable as you do now, but would need to switch to the scart input on the TV to see what the recorder is doing when you want to record (plus you won't be able to record in HD - not actually sure if a HD channel will play over a scart connection - I suspect not, but since your recorder does not have HDMI you don't have a lot of choice )

A Video would normally use it own tuner ? from the terrestrial aerial ?

Its unlikely there will be any outputs you can use on the TV ?

What sockets are on the back of the free sat box ?

I used to do it via the aerial's, connect the aerial to the VCR in, and from the VCR output to the TV aerial socket.. Worked for me till I went more modern innit....

There are 2 scart connectors, 1 marked VHS, 1 marked TV. Please see attached image.

Yes, a VCR would have had its own tuner which would just need an Ariel, however just like the TV units in our cars this would be analogue......therefore will no longer work, therefore needs to be connected to a freesat, freeview, Sky or Virgin box....

The recorder will have an output Scart which will go to the TV. The problem will be of the freest box will output to scart and HDMI at the same time.

So looks ok then, vhs scart on the freesat to the vcr, then the TV scart ON THE VCR to the TV.

The TV scart on the freesat should not be connected to anything as you are using the HDMI instead.

Okay, thanks very much to all. So, I just need 2 scart leads now and connect them as described above?

No luck, I'm afraid. Have tried everything, but auto-setup for the DVD recorder just says 'no stations found - check aerial connection'. I don't have an aerial of course, just an HDMI cable going from the HD box to the TV.
