Diesel Mileages
Hi Folks!
I am keen to buy a diesel version of these splendid cars, having heard such positive things about them! Most of the ones available in my price range seem to be around the 120,000 mile mark, so I am wondering how they generally fair at this mileage and beyond (providing they have been regularly serviced of course)? Comments from other owners in this regard, good or bad, would be much appreciated, before I part with my cash! Thanks! |

Mines at 135k and fine - in fact to be honest I actually sort of regret buying mine at 80k! The biggest bill a diesel can throw at you will be a clutch change - which will probably of been done by 120k (and if not, it's probably literally around the corner so budget accordingly!)
In addition to the "normal" 75 / ZT issues the other thing that could happen is fuel pumps - but while this is more likely to happen over time & mileage, it can happen at any time. Having said that, I reckon the suspension of a 120k car won't be as "tight" as one of a 60k car, but most owners won't realise due to the very gradual change |

I agree with what's already been said. Engine is good, clutch & fuel pumps do need replacing anytime from 70k miles onwards, at what mileage is anyone's guess as no 2 cars or drivers are the same.
I have a diesel saloon with 79k miles & a diesel estate with 132k miles and both run fine. However any car is more than just the engine so with 120k plus miles, you may have to consider possibly having replacing other (consumable) items e.g. springs, shocks, wheel bearings, brake discs, aux pulleys / belts etc. If there's a srevice history saying that some of these have been replaced then good. |

not a diesel but my V6 just went through 160,000 with no worries, the mark in general if looked after seems good for high mileages, the hospital near my folks house had a 75 oil burner as a hospital car which they sold with 480,000 on the clock!

The M47 is a engine well capable of very high mileages....so 120k is no problem.
But there are components that fail, cooling fan motors etc....So as James say's keep £1000 to cover all work required, or best advice is to check out the for sale section and buy a car with a known history with all repairs and modification done.
