If it 'aint broke. (Clutch)

How do you feel about the diesel clutch? All was replaced around 4 yrs ago, I've had the car 3yrs now and had no clutch issues at all. Even now, the clutch is superb, good biting point etc. but.... should I flush through some new fluid? I have the time and the obvious benefit is that I may flush out some gunge, like bits of seals. The other obvious thing is that it may never be the same again, hence the title. Thoughts please.

A member has flushed out the system and I did ask them to let me know if they had any problems afterwards, they came back to me to say they had not got any problems.

I like you am apprehensive about flushing the clutch system.
If it is done I would do it in two parts, master to joint in engine bay and then joint to slave.

If you do do it please pm me to let me know if you have any problems.

I replaced the fluid in the wife's car earlier in the year, and considering the clutch and hydraulics are original, it appears not to have had any ill effects.

I'd always recommend doing it, the suspended particles of rubber from the seals can't do anything any good.

Interesting thread. I've just got the kit together in the last week to change the fluid in mine.

Tempted though to try to just top it up from the engine bleed nipple.

17 years old and all the clutch parts are original.

BUT if it works don't try and mend it keeps shooting through my mind.---

My thoughts too....I’m in same boat as you, with original clutch, but something so far has resisted me from tempting fate with a fluid change.😵

I have not done a full exchange of fluid, but I have bled the system three times since I had the car.(12years).I will be doing it again as soon as I have the KV6 up and running. I may do a complete change with bleeding through a litre of fluid.

I did it today and it's working fine.---

Not a complete change. Just fed some fluid in through the bleed nipple on the top of the gearbox.

Over seventeen years it must have lost a very slight amount of fluid each year.

Going to give that synchromesh an easier time now meshing those gears.

Done it, no difference whatsoever. Ok, got rid of the now grey fluid with the black bits floating in it but regarding operation, no different.
