I hate apple! Help please :)

I have updated my iPad to the latest version and tonight plugged my iPad into the PC to swap some music. I'm getting a message saying I can't connect the iPad as I don't have iTunes version 11.1 or later and that I need to download from iTunes.com. Is this the iPad or my PC? I can't see any options to update the PC? If I go to iTunes and reload on the PC will all my music still be there once I log back in?

Lol, sometimes I hate technology! It's now sorted but when I go into music instead of the three albums I have on there, I have listed about 2,000 songs that are the kids with the option to download via the cloud? If I wanted to download them I would have! Why can't I just have the songs I want

Apparently I had to go into each section on the iPad and un tick each option to stop the options??

Download iTunes 11.1 first then plug your iPad in.
