the CDTi is actually 131 bhp and the CDT is the lower output.

the output of these engines can be increased with a 'synergy 2'

try a search on the above, loads of information

Note that the CDTi is not necessarily a 135. Some cars are 135 from the factory, some were converted by the dealers. So you cannot rely on using "CDT" or "CDTi" to determine the power level. The way is to check is to look up the version/variant on the V5C document and check it against the table (found elsewhere on here). This will tell you what it was when it left the factory. If it's a 115 at that point, then you need to check if it's had a dealer/xpart upgrade. You can find this out by a) looking for a receipt showing the upgrade has been done, or b) look for the "XPower 135" sticker on the passenger door 'B' pillar. If it has this, then it's a 135.

If you still haven't determined what it is after doing the above, then you can have a dealer check by putting the car on a T4.

My car is a 2004 model, it's a CDTi, yet it was a 115 from the factory. The dealer did the upgrade three months after the car was bought (I have the receipt and the sticker).

Hi all. Mine is a 52 plate cdt. ex -dearlership car and V5 says 115. Suits me fine to be honest but from reading on here, its not too expensive to give the unit more punch. personal choice i suppose.

Thanks guys...........i sort of thought this was the case.
So if it is a 135 i understand that it can be bumped up with the synergy 2?

Mine is a 2004 MkII CDTi and I had thought CDTi meant 135, the extra power output being from the 'i' or intercooler. So off I went looking in vain for a sticker on the passenger side and found nothing.

However looking at the drivers side B pillar, just below the lock, is a Rover sticker with 135ps on it.

Looks like your dealer stuck it on the wrong side then

The 'i' doesn't stand for intercooler in this case, but I know that on some earlier Rover models it did (for example I had a 420SDLi, and that had an intercooler, and the 420SLD didn't). But all the diesel 75s and ZTs have an intercooler. It seems the badge change from CDT to CDTi was just a marketing ploy.

This is the label stuck on the drivers door pillar by Longbridge to denote a 135ps engine had been fitted.

In 2002/2003 when MG Rover introduced the 135ps engine a CDTi badge was fixed to the left side of the boot.

The CDTi badge continued to be fitted to the 75 until the facelift version was introduced, then only the door pillar label was fitted.
The 116ps version never had a CDT badge fitted.
When the £500 upgrade from 116ps to 135ps was completed by a MG Rover dealer no label or boot badge was part of the upgrade.
On completion of the upgrade you were supposed to tell any MG Rover dealer where your 75 was serviced that the upgrade had been done or a session on a T4 could revert the upgrade back to 116ps.
