Default Green Flag for me.

Green Flag for me after the disaster on the M6 a few months ago with the RAC. Also see here and especially Reader's Comments which will make your hair stand on end. (I pay less than £40 a year).

I also had a big increase in renewal quote so priced up with (I think) Gem, who advertise in the MGOC magazine.

Phoned RAC on the off-chance they'd beat it, and they did. The lady in the call centre went about it in a convoluted way, some of it monthly payments, then she gave me so many months 'free,' but in the end the cost per month of cover WAS cheaper than Gem and LOADS cheaper than the initial RAC renewal quote.

So although it's a con and you shouldn't have to do it, 20 minutes or so on the phone saved me a lot.
I doubt if they will be as generous next year. You are "new business" and like car insurance they will beat a quote to get the business. However........!

Been with the AA a number of years. You need to read the small print as there is a clause that the “unlimited call outs” is in fact limited. I exceeded that limit in 2022. They tried putting it up to £325 but again I contested it with a quote from Gocompare.com and they reduced it to £150.

I remember this club started an affiliation with the RAC about 4-5 years ago regarding a 'favourable' price to NEW members. Not sure if it's still in place.I recall remarking at the time that it would have been nice if a discount could have been negotiated for existing members but was soon hushed up.

I am with Autoaid and have been for many years. Only one call out made but the service was spot on. Their policy on older cars has changed - it used to require a premium of about £15 above the regular £62 but at last renewal the premium is no different at £62 but there is a standing charge of £25 per call out.

I still think it is a great value policy when you consider it covers you and your spouse whilst driving any car and includes home start and recovery to the destination of your choice.

I went over to Green Flag in January 2022 after a big price hike in my RAC membership. First year Green Flag was £76.16 and this increased in July 2023 to £95.09 ( can't remember why the first membership was an 18 month duration, may have been a special offer),

Superb value that. You have the same benefits there that the RAC are asking £225 for.And as a member of 35 years.

I have been with RAC for 10 years - my renewal is 11.50 per month for

Roadside, Recovery, At Home
24/7 roadside and home rescue
Unlimited tow anywhere in the UK
Plus a 20-mile taxi home

So am OK with that.

Do you have a 'personal membership' ? IE you in any car.

If so I'd love to hear them explain the consistency of their pricing structure.

I was under the impression that Green Flag didn't cover older cars?

I was with the AA for years until several years ago I realised I joined at a motorway service station for £30 and was now being asked to renew at over £300. They seem to add products you didn't ask for, in my case European Cover and other bells and whistles. It was easier to cancel than talk to anyone at the time.
