Default unzip software

Hi all,
can anyone recommend a safe, if possible free, unzip software. I used one for an update on my Android head unit a while ago, and although it worked, it also downloaded a few unwanted things (even though I have Norton protection) and I have only just got things back to normal.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Depending on which operating system you have, the later ones have their own unzip utility built in.

Windows does and has had since XP, they tend to work 99% of the time, but the odd 1% they don't work with then 7zip will do the job if you're using Windows. No idea on Macs, linux systems usually have plenty of options based on gzip (all free of course).

the standard operating unzips will only do zip files, there are plenty of other zipped formats out there that it doesn't do such as .7z .rar .001 (.002 etc)

Default Thanks

Thanks for the replies,
I have a fairly new windows 8 laptop which couldnt open the zipped igo software I was sent. I cant remember the name of the one I downloaded (I dont often need to unzip many files, except XL ones ) and thought I got the right one... how wrong was I.
I did research other ones, and thankfully the replies have suggested the ones I had shortlisted are the ones to go for.
Thanks again
Paul.
