Default "Static" on DD radio stations

Have spent the day trying to make the DD unit fit the hole in the dash, and had to give up after a few hours when it got dark. However, I did connect it up briefly to see if things were working OK, and tuned in all the available radio stations.

Unfortunately, although the sound quality sounds good to me, there’s a constant hissing (more of a shhhhh than a sssss…) in the background. It's the same on all stations. You can only hear it on quiet bits, but then it's quite noticeable.

This is the 4th head unit I’ve had in the car, and the first to do this.

Obviously Sean or Jeff will reply, but thought it best to post here for the benefit of others.

Sending the Fix Now

OK thanks, I’ll have to wait to get to a PC with Dropbox.

The radio and satnav have completely stopped working now anyway.

Cant imagine why you spent all day trying to fit a DD unit in the dash, it only an hours work if its one of Sean's.

That may be your experience, but it hasn’t been mine, for the following reasons:

1. It doesn’t fit the hole in the dash properly. I have had to trim the sides of the aperture to get it to slide in.

2.
Having done that, and got it moving relatively freely through the aperture, it is still a couple of millimetres proud at the bottom. I have checked repeatedly for cables fouling behind etc, and there is absolutely nothing obstructing the unit’s travel. Jeff recommended removing the plastic mounting bracket on the bulkhead – I did, but it made no difference.

3.
At the top, there’s a gap of several millimetres between the unit’s steel mounting lugs and the screw holes behind – my fixing screws can’t be made to reach through, as they’re now too short.

It’s been in and out many, many times now; everything has been checked and re-checked again and again, but it doesn’t quite fit. I’ve had a friend, who is an engineer, check everything I’m trying to do – he agrees that it simply doesn't fit properly.

Reading exhaustively all the posts by other users on this forum, many have fitted it successfully; some have had the same problems as me, so I know I’m not alone. Perhaps there are differences between the cars, I don’t know.

I have emailed you separately, but (a) the radio stations still display on the unit, but there’s only a hiss from the speakers on all stations (yes, the aerial is connected); (b) the satnav is asking for an SD card.
