Default I don't believe it

I have my mot booked tomorrow, I also have a clunking from the front which looks like a tie rod end on it's way out.
So it looks like a fail is on the cards.

As Victor meldrew said..............

What I do is book the car for a pre mot
They give me a list of things wrong if any.
Then when all is fixed I book it in for the mot and it passes first time.
I know it's cheating but it looks good on paper.

I came home from work on sat night, all motorway and all was good, went out with last night and some clunking from the front.

So today I spend a few hours under the front checking it all and I can twist the track rod end with my hand.

This one has taken me by surprise, I'm usually on the ball with preventative maintenance.

Cancel the test, and replace the TRE Dave, beats a fail hands down.

Is this on the diesel or the V6?

It's on the diesel Chris, my daily, I thought I'd book her in a month early as I hate last minute panics,
I'll probably do that and change the other side while I'm at it, otherwise on a cold and snowy day in the not too distant future............

Not a bad job really. Just don’t fit Delphi Drop Links. They are complete rubbish. I know, I have had them on the diesel. Lasted less than a year on the one side. If I have to buy any again, it will be Meyle and they are guaranteed for 4 years so that is a bonus.

Hi Ched.
Try tightening up the nut on the track rod end, sometime it will tighten up and stop the play, if it does then great it will pass the mot, then change them out later, if it fails you still have 14 days to sort out before sending it back in.

Thanks for that Steve, however I have now replaced them and.…… it’s still knocking 😡
My suspicions are the top mounts on the near side, I’ll have to get a second opinion before I strip that lot down.

As an aside I ended up having to hacksaw the tre off as billy bodge had stripped the thread previously.

Well it turned out to be the nearside droplink, both were replaced with help from angle grinder and dremel.
Both had the nuts rusted to the threads, I can only assume that they were cheap replacements parts as they look nothing like the replacements from dmgrs.
Then I went for a roadtest, the silence was deafening but most welcome.
