does anyone know if the foam pads behind the bumper were different on a premium bumper from a standard one, as I had to shave ours down a bit because the foam kept pushing the bumper out and preventing it from fitting properly. Was tempted to not bother fitting the foam inserts at all.

I took my foam out and it made no difference

According to Part Numbers, every bumper for 75, ZT, Mk1, Mk2, single horn, twin horn and premium are all different.

As the MK 1 ZT is the best looking derivative of the lot, why would you want to fit an ugly Audi grille to it?

The genuine MGR V8 splitter is different in respect to items such as the SEAT Cupra one, the genuine part extends the bottom of the bumper to the point where it cannot be fitted using standard wheelarch liners.

So this is directed at Robson, remove the splitter and try again, I had this issue less than a month ago
