Default Replacement Head Unit

Hi,

I am looking to replace my current head unit (VDO CD 413x) with something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Stereo...item19faac0a5a) so I can listen to music from a SD card, will be a simple plug and play??? will the volume controls on the steering wheel work?? or should I expect a world of pain??

thanks in advance

Nick

Wheel controls will no doubt be a problem but the unit will be a straight exchange.

You need an extra loom to keep the steering wheel controls

The physical fit of the unit will be the same - but if you look at the photos and instructions, that head unit comes with a non-standard plug and just the plain wires at the end. This means you will need two ISO sockets to connect it up, and you'll have to ensure you connect everything to the right pin numbers (unless you want to just "butcher" the wiring).

So I don't think this is a simple "plug and play" but it is doable with a modicum of electrical knowledge.

It doesn't look as if that unit supports steering wheel controls at all.

The Remote Steering Controls will not be able to be used as there seems to be no Remote Socket on the rear of the unit.... Good price though without doubt! But as clf states below, not really my cup of tea either. Sorry.

PS. There is the same unit at even cheaper prices at the bottom of the page...

for the money, it seems good value, but I fear the vdo will sound better. steering controls will be lost, and I imagine if an adapter is available, it will cost more than the stereo to upgrade the sound at the same time, I would suggest the Kenwood 5057sd. currently on offer through Amazon. it is 102.95, I was looking into there for ages, about 6 months ago, and they were 150+ then. I think Kenwood do a few others, with pm slots, mechless ones too (no tape or CD built in) for less than 100.

I know that is a huge leap in price, but I really fear the sound will be downgraded.

It might be me but I find the steering wheel volume control not very good. I need to contort my ,admittedly short, fingers to use it. Much easier to use the knob on the high line.

I find mine very natural, different people do things in different ways, my seat is a lot lower than most would have theirs for example
