lower wishbone/control arm - where to get? - Solved and mounted :)
Hi all,
My last control arm only lasted 2 years/45000 miles, and has now developed play in the lower balljoint and need to be replaced. Where to get a quality control arm for a resonable price, whic will be shipped to Norway? Thanks for advice Last edited by beinet1; 6th September 2013 at 11:23.. |

I have a dealer receipt with my car for replacement front suspension parts at 50,000 miles. Perhaps not than uncommon?

It's a shame that Lemforder seem NLA. There still appear to be some QH advertised on the bay. I am purchasing key quality parts to keep for my 2* 75's and will most likely go for TRW or Delphi wishbones on the basis that both firms produce quality braking, steering and suspension components. They sell for around £110 - £120 each from the well known parts suppliers such as Carparts4less, Mister-Auto etc. So, it's probably a case of checking if one of these suppliers will ship to Norway. |

Get genuine Rover ones. Do a search on ebay, there is a supplier who advertises on there. They are 89.00 for driver's side and 109.00 for passenger side. I also replaced the rear bushes with polyflex ones at the same time. Much better than the original or pattern part alternatives. This is the second time I have replaced them, I used 'quality' replacements the first time but they only lasted 18 months (80,000 miles). The original ones lasted 160, 000 miles and 8 year's. So I would go the genuine part route as they are cheaper in the long run.

I have a suspicion that the "current" MGR ones (I presume as supplied by the aformentioned bay seller (ecp2000?)) are not Lemforders but ones sourced by X-Part from one of the other quality manufacturers. They are not expensive enough to be Lemforders! |

I have just done a quick summary...
My 1.8 is at 113750 miles now. It had a new LH control arm at 56000miles which is still going strong, fitted at a LR garage (but they did not the rear bush). It had a new Ebay RH control arm at 70500 miles, which have now failed after approx 45000miles / 2 years. I fitted new rear bushes branded Febi to both sides at 70500 miles. These are still in good shape and no cracks are seen in the rubber on close inspection. My 2.0 V& is at 51500 miles now. It had a new RH control arm fitted at 43750 miles. The other side is still the factory fitted one. To me, it seems like their lifetime could be either pretty short, or long for the factory fitted ones. Maybe the 45000miles on the Ebay one was not that bad after all??? I am not sure, but I am tempted to go for a new £50`ish arm....... I replace them in under an hour...so the job is not the problem... This guy never learns and never say no to cheap things and womens..... (Yes... I know it is wrong...) |

My near side arm managed 166,000 miles. Ive had the car since new so it was definitely original. I replaced it with a cheap eBay one which only lasted only 4000 miles before it started knocking and showed movement. It may well have been a rouge one but I would steer clear of cheapies. The supplier has them listed on eBay at the moment for £52.44 with free postage. Pm me if you want their eBay ID so you know what not to buy!

I just replaced mine with one from Euro-parts -£89 with the discount. They also have OEM quality, as they put it, for £120 odd. Seems okay, but only time will tell.
