Default Rear light conundrum!

Hi All,
Hoping some one can point me in the right direction. I had a bulb warning light come up yesterday. I've just had a look and I'm now totally confused! when i turn on the side lights I have the rear drivers side brake light and the Passenger side tail light come on. I checked and even swapped new for old on all the bulbs but still the same. I can't see anything like obvious loose connection or worn wires. all the holders look clean and undamaged. that's as far as my electrical expertise goes! has anyone seen this before, or am i just lucky!

Drivers side tail lamp bulb has failed.
The brake light illuminates at half intensity to compensate, how good is that ?

It's a great safety feature but doesn't half complicate matters trying to find which bulb has gone, especially if you are trying to to find it on your own

And works vice/versa tail light double for brake light or brake light double for tail light, answer if checking alone, are both lights level, or as they say in Yorkshire (I am told) one eye on pot, 'other up chimbly or one higher than the other.

And another innovative feature is that if you stop and leave indicator on, and remove keys, the rear and side lights will stay on, on the side which the indicator was left

It does that with mine, only found out when neighbour said, you have left your lights on, on one side ?

Checked, and indicator stalk was in the up position
