. Or use a 1/2" AF ring spanner, my favourite is a Britool 2RB4350 which has never failed to remove a caliper support bracket retaining bolt for me EVER, despite being bi-hex, it grips any corrosion wasted 13mm A/F bolt perfectly

Or when you have slackened the adjustment off, poke a screwdriver through the hole in the disc where the securing torx screw normally lives to push the web of the brake shoe onto the backplate, allowing the disc to be removed without an unnecessary fight.

Once you have secured both shoes re assemble the drum, and re adjust handbrake using the correct procedure.
Good luck !
Remembering that the original shoe steady pins are spring loaded, I usually use a spring and a washer, if using a bolt to secure the shoes.

As an alternative to using bolts and nyloc nuts, you can use a different type of brake shoe steady pins, pushed through the backplate, and secured on the inside with cup washers, something similar to this.......

Just an alternate observation Jim, all or sometimes nothing else works, but I've yet to use the Irwin bolt extractors, or chisels on these yet

Just a quick update to say that my mechanic has found that it was rotting backplates.
He's done a temporary repair, but ultimately need new backplates.
Notice DMGRS have them for £80 a pair (mechanic already fitted new shoes and fixing kit)… unfortunately Mat is now away and can't ship them until 3rd Jan which means I probably won't get them until w/c 7th Jan.
