Thanks for all the replies
Think my first port of call is to charge the battery then I'll take it from there. There is a Rover/MG mechanic based a few miles from where i live in Derby city centre so will take it there assuming i can get up and running. Am i right in saying even if the alternator isn't working and assuming the battery is ok and i can fully charge it i'd get a couple of days driving out of it? |

would starting the car, turning on everything electrical, with headlights on and horn button pressed and engine ticking over, would headlights get a bit brighter if engine is revved and alternator is working?

That's why I said tap the connectors with a rubber mallet not smack them with a lump hammer!

Charged battery and took it it to Halfords. They tested it. Battery is good. They said its definitely alternator and quoted me £620 to change it. Had this car 2 weeks...
Im in Derby. Any recommendedations where to take it? |

do not give up
Look on fleabay you will see lots of alternators on there not to dear and its pretty easy to fit your self or if you have a mate local with a few spanners

I'll get one on ebay but cant fit myself so will have to take it to a garage and pay them to fit it. Wonder how long battery will last on this charge?
