on the face of it looks like a proper honest car well looked after sometimes better to have a car with higher miles that has been in regular cared for use than low miles

I could have that for a spare
To be serious that sort of mileage is not a problem Scooter once told me that it won't fully loosen up until 80,000+ miles. I bought mine with 6,000 miles and it is now nudging 85,000 and it does feel better as the miles clock up. |

With fuel at record heights and still rising, the V8's are going to drop in value...

drop in value?
I am not so sure. 260s are much rarer than SD1s were. Only 215 of mark ones. Of those 30 or so are tourers. So if you want a mk 1 tourer they are like rocking horse poo. Mine is a saloon and is therefore 1 of only 185 cars and in my colour it is much rarer. From what I have read from other 260 owners - they want the car for its rarity and luxury with muscle car power and sound. Thats why I wanted mine. So they will still be sought after.
However I accept things are only worth what people are prepared to pay so you might be right. 20mpg or not I will not be looking to sell mine anytime soon. Cheers Steve
