Default Retail security tips if anyone's done it before.

Hiya all the new job is going really well Caught a thief today after catching him out trying too nick a bottle of Jack Daniels.

I was lucky there tho as I was going around I could see he was checking on me every now and again and saw the conceals straight away after I tuned away slipped right into the bag.

For the last few days its been interesting, how people shop lift and also seeing the tricks that they use too get past security and also the barriers as well with the alarm system.

Its not like the doors where you pull someone too one side if you think there acting out of character, You got too be 100% sure if you don't you can get sued or lose your job just by getting it wrong.

I like it but the rules and regulations conflict what I've been doing over the years, I'll get used too it.

If anyone that's done this line of work before please let me know as I like to be one step ahead in terms of catching hardcore shop lifters.

Other thing too add, I can't touch'em or grab them in anyway at all or I get sued, On the doors anything goes too a certain degree.

So if I see a shop lifter I can only use harsh language and hopefully they'll stop, beep that I'll go after them, not letting thief's steal from the shop I'm going too do my damn best too get there items back and prevent anymore shop lifting.

Human rights give more rights too the criminals then the security.

The paper work they gave me on Tuesday in a real life situation its useless.

Don't get overenthusiastic Dave. There was a recent case (about a year ago?) where a security guard tackled a guy who had been stealing bottles of spirits from Asda, the guy fell smashing the bottles he was concealing cutting his stomach to ribbons, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff etc he bled to death. The security guard was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but wasn't charged. However his SIA license was revoked and I don't think he ever got it back.

That security guard was really lucky not too be charged, did the job and the man he chased was killed for it.

I bet my money thief's will use this and will try and do it more often, any Advantages they'll take it.

I have done retail security before... Long, long shifts with not a lot happening can make the day drag a bit but when you have a lifter on the go it can be thrilling stuff...

Hi Dave, glad to hear you're enjoying it

So, advice. Because you are restricted with regard to detention, the first thing to do is make sure you can get the thief's face on camera. Simply nodding in a certain direction will get them to look
We went through the Maybo training where you restrain people without actually grabbing them, but in a real life situation this is next to impossible to do. (well it is for me anyway!)
As long as you have video footage for the Police to look at that should be enough. They will probably recognise them anyway.
Keep up the good work
