I can think of a few George, and I am by no means a fan.

I, like you, was old enough at the time she entered no. 10, to make my own mind up.

I can remember the car industry and so many other industries gone to the dogs through commie maniacs. A lot of them were drummed out of the ETU for being actually in the Communist Party and refusing to disavow their entry oath to work for the fall of democratic government (treasonable), calling strikes every week then threatening their members with being ostracised (blacked in another age) if they didn’t ‘come out’.

The unions had a stranglehold on the country and were blackmailing first Wilson then Callaghan. That was the time Denis Healy (world class champagne socialist lording it in his landed estate) going ’cap in hand’ to the IMF to bail us out. She put a stop to all that. Talking of Wilson (two terms PM), he closed more pits and sacked more miners than Thatcher ever did, and in a shorter time! Good Socialist though, of course!

I remember working a three-day week during that waste of time Ted Heath. Great, just what I wanted. Until I only got three days pay for it. TV switched off at 10.30 pm. Candles after that. Had to be careful though, couldn’t afford house insurance. Then stinking rubbish piled up in the streets and bereaved families unable to bury their deceased family members. She stopped that.

At the time, believe it or not, I was a local trade union minor official and acutely embarrassed by ’our brother leaders’. I still can’t believe they settled for Major of all people after her!

I don’t believe she was a real Conservative. She was, in fact, an old fashioned Liberal (formerly Whig - to use the old Scottish term) and a patriot, with similar basic principles to those Churchill had originally. That’s why her ‘friends’ dumped her.
Just the facts; not opinion; not indoctrination; a fair assessment with no bias.

My father had nothing long before Thatcher came about. He used to come home from work with bleeding hands wrapped in muslin swabs, from manually shovelling Carbide dust from railway wagons into furnaces in the open air, all weathers. And then go back and do it again the next day. That’s a proud Labour home for you! Oh, yes, he had to ‘liberate’ the swabs. They weren’t issued to his grade, only the management canteen cleaners.
I came through all that determined never to be dependent on ‘the state’ for anything ever again, but I can still make my own mind up.
