Default A Tribute To The Television Centre

I spotted this Youtube piece marking the end of the BBC Television Centre, and thought others might like to take a look as the doors finally close and the lights go out at W12 8QT....IMHO a sad loss to British Television heritage

Yep, some great memories there Reebs. Whatever has happened to television these days? Violence, sex, foul language. Why? I can't think of many programmes my poor old mum would want to watch if she was still with us. Comedy's almost dead as far as I'm concerned. Modern 'alternative' comedians who think that to be funny all they've got to do is shout and swear a lot. Sorry, not for me I'm afraid. Rant over!

At least the building, being an icon of British Television, will be kept as its been listed. To become appartments I think.

It is sad, but how they can still hold people to ransom over the tv licence in this day and age is beyond me

Make it a pay to view like sky for the same price as a TV licence for the year. Then see how many takers they get

Studio 1 (the big brick wall with Television Centre written on it), Studio 2 - a small studio used for Children's TV for years, and Studio 3 a large studio, will remain and be 'leased' back to the BBC to use, but all of the other 5 main studios and associated areas will be remodelled into accommodation, retail units, a cinema, and 'The BBC Experience' apparently

Only the frontage of Studio 1 and the front of the donut ring and stair well with clock are grade II listed.....the rest is fair game for the bulldozers

I watched a program on BBC4 last Friday, they were saying that the BBC would still have a presence in the building for many more years yet. It seems the nature of program making is now such that large studios are no longer needed so time to move on, it happens sadly.

Very sad indeed, an iconic building no longer wanted / needed
