Default EGR bypass pros and cons??

Recently bought diesel conny and I'm considering EGR by pass but heard conflicting views

I understand the original concept of reintroducing some of the warm exhaust gases to improve efficiency / consumption by burning any unburned fuel which also aims for cleaner emmisions - so what are the advantages of 'by-passing' it?

Interested to here from anyone who's actually done the by-pass and any benefits - also interested in anyone who hasn't done it and their reasoning

i cleaned mine as it got stuck when i decided to bypass it removed the egrvalve i could not belive the amount of crud that had built up in a small space of time so i took it off i think the car runs a lot cleaner no more black smoke etc did not notice increased fuel consumption etc .the concept of re introducing exhaust gases in theory is a good idea but in practice does not work very well as it also bungs up everything with tar from the diesel fuel

I have a bypass on my car and would recommend one. Just disconnecting the vacuum pipe on mine first stopped a hesitation at around 2000rpm. Adding the bypass allows me to turn up the Synergy higher without smoke.

Pro's are:

It removes the restriction caused by the valve so will flow more air.
Stops gunk entering the intake and lining the intake surfaces like manifold, pipes etc.
Can make the engine run more smoothly.

Con's are:

Engine takes a little longer to warm up.
Environmental concerns.

I fitted one on my first 75 and, acknowledging the subjectivity of my observations, found the engine smoother and more eager to rev.

I fitted one on VeeKay the day I got her so can't say what the car preformed like before. I can say that I've not had any problems with either car since the bypass was fitted.
