Default rear light unit ZT-T.

Noticed today whilst doing other jobs on the ZT-T today my n/s rear light cluster was very loose on looking further there are some plastic clips that appear to be broken and on attempting to remove the screws found they just spin in the retainers, absolutely diabolical design in my opinion so have temp fixed for now until i can find a way to release the screws and fix the broken plastic screw fittings, anyone else noticed this with a 75 tourer or ZT-T.?

I've got the exact same problem. Someone's had a right go at trying to sort it out (screw in one, bolt in the other), not to mention that the whole unit was held on by mastic! I'm having the capture bolts wleded this wwk, so let's see how it goes!

Had my Dad's rear lamp clusters off at the weekend to replace bulbs. The bolts do take a number of turns to release, and the plastic from the lamp lense itself does appear to be ' in the way' perhaps to help prevent the bolts dropping out.

Did release the lamps without much hassle though. Ball and socket clips are these ones if it helps.

Have a look on eBay - there is an ex MGRover dealer selling these and the postage is less than Rimmer.

On mine (75) one of the plastic 'arms' for the bolt has broken off each. Before having a go at afixing another 'arm' I bought a new pair from Les at SMC. The design of fixing does not seem the best so thought I would grab a spare pair whilst I could.

For bolts I use the plastic bolts used for fixing number plates - these will not rust.

Unfortunately for you lot, we are now stuck behind a broken train. We'll be here for quite a while but I don't care, I'm now on overtime.

It's all fixed (the captive nuts have been welded to the bodywork again) and the cluster is now properly screwed-on. Here's hoping a bulb doesn't blow!

Imo I think a rivnut would be the way to go if my tourer fixings fail.
I like the plastic bolt idea if the head slots dont get all messy after a few goes.

Few blobs of silicone sealant.
Just remember where they are when you need to cut them!
