Default diesel filter

about to undertake a full service on my car,regarding the diesel filter is it top up with diesel before fitting as per a normal diesel?any particler problems on the 75 in regards to inducing air?

When I replaced mine I never filled it, just turn the key and let the pumps prime it for a wee minute (you'll hear the note change when its ready..about 10 secs)

Done mine twice, no problems. Just follow normal practice.

thats great stuff,when they serviced my dads transit(fords are rubbish)they had major agro with air,so that garage wont be touching my car,i will sort it my self,i normally do my own maintenance anyway

Its very very very common on all ford diesels to not start after drawing air into fuelling system if the filter is not topped up first , a lot of places just pour the old diesel into the new filter ! I worked on transits a few years back and they were awful ! Rover of course is great just put the filter on and let it prime itself however one thing always lubricate the filter seal before fitting !

thanks for the advice,they tell me the mondeos the same but it shares the same engine as the transit

yup same as the Jaguar x type same as the mondeo................terrible fuelling systems they were offered two types when that engine was designed one was not so good but cheap and the other was top notch and expensive.........guess which one they went for !

i warned him about the transit before he bought it,he is also getting a nasty noise from the diesel pump some part of it playing up,£700 to sort it out,happened a month after purchase,but there is a vehicle much,much worst my work van a isuzu powered astra most unrefined shed i have ever owned then again i do own a 75 so i suppose everything else would be struggle to be as good!
