1.8 T oil light.

A friend asked me this question last night can anybody help

It means the oil pressure is dropping below the safe running point. It's probably a high temperature/low viscosity issue or tickover is too low. It should be checked against the spec (which I forget - it's about 800rpm I think). Assuming pressurised areas of the engine (oil pump and big end shells etc) are OK, then I'd suggest an oil and filter change, replacing it with the specified 10W-40 semi-synthetic to ACEA A3 spec. He can choose whatever brand he favours. If that doesn't resolve it, then it's time for some diagnostic work by a good engine mechanic.

This could be a faulty oil pressure switch,however this is a critical area,I would advise your friend to get an oil pressure gauge plugged in to make sure that the oil pressure is within spec.,if not serious damage can be done very quickly by running an engine with low oil pressure

As above, check oil pickup pipe as well

Oil pumps are quite a straight forward to fit on K engines so shouldn't be too dificult a repair
