Default MLS or Elastomer for the K Series? Article inside!

As some of you know, I do enjoy writing technical articles for our cars - I'm going to try and use my experience with our fine motors to write more in the coming weeks.

To kick things off, I've done a little piece on why I really don't believe the MLS gasket is quite the fix-all it's been touted as in the past - you can read it here:
https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/pages/why-th...acked-up-to-be

It'll probably generate a bit of discussion, but these are my findings after lots of feedback from customers (both garages and individuals).

Enjoy!

Good stuff.....

This was our 1.8T's MLS gasket , as fitted by an " expert" garage and after 22,700 miles and a Mayo filled Motor ..

All ok again so far and with 4 flush liners, its now fited with one of Matts Elastomers and new bolts.

And ref my my other posts the "mayo" ridden oil/water made the turbo

fail about 1500 miles later !! .

Thought you might like a silly vast photo

That picture knocked over next door's BBQ!

Just kidding - thank you for that. Looks like a lot of the corroded MLS gaskets I've seen too.

Insee the pics of a failed MLS.

Word of caution about deducing they are bad. There are many many fakes out there.

Bought a tf with a MLS gasket. Yeah they are painted steel and tend to fail with external coolant leaks. It was a copy of the MLS.

No matter what type, buy a decent one - probably from dmgrs for peace of mind.

Can’t agree more, never go for the cheap option, the majority of the time they not fit for purpose
