Depending on the model year there's between 168 and 228 cells, £25 a cell, between £4200 and £5700 to replace the lot.

I'm sure you'd get a discount for bulk buying.

While 'climate change' might benefit a smidgin, depending to your viewpoint, the Goverment's stated motivation is the 45,000 UK deaths a year caused by vehicle exhaust. I suppose you might see this as no more political smoke and mirrors, or as one of fortyfive thousand, not before time. Either way, it won't affect me a jot.

I think a bigger concern with electic vehicle is the isssue that should there be some massive power grid failure then everything comes to a grinding halt.
At least at the moment if the power goes out we are still able to get from one place to another.
In reality, in the future, he who controls power generation will have total control over the whole population and what they do, banking, their movement etc.
Not hard to see how easy it would be to bring civilization to a grinding halt!!!

I’m going to work on the theory that if there is a power grid failure the petrol stations forecourts will grind to a halt as well?

Yes, the pumps wont work without electricity however petrol or diesel can be still manually pumped if needed unlike electricity, you either have it or you dont.
Personally i think here in Australia the take up on electric cars will only be around a cities until they develop somthing that can do more than 300km before needing a recharge. We have about 3,000 km from one side of the country to the other with a large desert in between with nothing in it!!
