Default A66 open or closed? Local knowledge saught

I'm driving down to Bernard Castle this weekend .
Last weekend the A66 was closed for road works. Ive checked various sites and can't figure out if it's open or closed this weekend.
BBC/ Traffic England say it's shut. AA and RAC suggest it's open.

Does anyone in the area know ?

I went through about 2 weeks ago it was closed from just after the a685 through to Penrith section I think.

I was going from shildon back home to blackpool going a66 past Bernard castle and then down the a685 through Kirby Stephen to the m6 and had no problems.

Simon,
The A66 has been closed for the last few weekends and I suspect it may be continue until the end of the month.
Google maps is showing it closed from the M6 to Appleby, its a bit of a faff to get round either the A69 and down or down to Tebay and use the A689 Kirkby Stephen.
Good Luck

One of the best roads in the UK Simon A69, turn off A688 to Alston, 689 all the way to Barney, or, as you leave Alston, go straight on to Teesdale
