Apologies to the OP.--Lol.

QUOTE---MG John.--Talking of Wasps, how about this. A spare ( pool of spares ) MG Montego I had stored for some years revealed a freshly constructed Wasp's nest suspended from part of the bonnet. The outer layer of wasp chewed "paper" was still quite wet, soft and pliable. So fresh it had not started to dry. It was about the size of an Orange. One constructed in a thorn bush in my Cousin's front garden was the size and shape of a Rugby Ball. Remarkable thing to see.

Just had to have one removed from the top of a 40ft pine tree in our garden.
18 inches in diameter.--------Full of immigrant Asian wasps.

Kill you just by looking at you.--

Specialist injected the nest with some sort of chemical. Very effective.

NOW back to air filters.-----I read in a post above that somebody changed theirs every year.---WOW.

I'm on filter number 2 on my 2003 car.----Regular fuel checks show that I'm getting over 50mpg. Perhaps there is no need to change them so often unless you do high mileages or drive in the desert somewhere.---

In normal driving the filter is running at about 10% or so of its maximum capacity.--

I have a K&N filter on my motorbike and it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.-----

Both my cars have K&N filters and I still did not need to wash them and oil them yet. Paid by themselfs already. In not much words, I love them.

No problem - here's the wasps nest I removed from my bathroom vent a few years ago.

Regarding K&N's, interesting views so far. I also have an in air-box K&N on my motorcycle. Never had them in my cars. I'm one of those that would usually change paper filters annually, as I do every thing possible before submitting cars for the emissions test! In the past that's been on a ZS, for which a paper filter can be got for ~£5 so it seemed silly not to. I'm considering a K&N as the filters for then ZT are more expensive, and I'm planning on keeping it a while.

Motorbike filters have to work ten times harder than their car equivalents as the revs are up around explosive limits for a car engine.

12,000rpm anybody ???---------

Do folks that believe that believe there is NO Performance Benefit with a K&N panel filter believe that the K&N is NOT less restrictive to air flow ?

the K&N IS Less restrictive to Airflow enough Said

How did you determine the filtration properties of each ? (the K&N discussed here is Not a Foam cone type)

I don't claim to know - however, the hype claims the K&N to have an equal level of filtration to a standard filter but with less restriction due to the materials/design/technical properties

better Airflow is a Benefit in any Combustion Engine

r.e noticeable performance benefits (real world driving, not racing performance) changing a standard filter old for new can result in a noticeable improvement in the Cars performance - I'm sure we can all agree

it's simple Physamatics with the K&N Panel Filter

I'm sure folks just repeat what they hear without any Real World Experience a bit like what happens with the K-series

My experience of K&N's on old motorcycles are, that you have to upjet the carbs, or you will probably damage the power in parts of the rev range. Less restriction, leads to more air, leads to weak mixture, leads to power loss and more heat. I assume the k with its sensors and ECU will automatically adjust the mixture?

Our Cars have Sensors and Fuel Injection that will compensate for any changes of Air Intake

I'm of the same mind as John in that I don't see the K&N as a "Performance Upgrade" in the way that term is used - i.e remapping would be a "Performance Upgrade" - However, our Engines Run on AIR - Petrol/Diesel/LPG whatever are just Primers (Air/Fuel ratios are the clue) less restriction = less output power required to feed the same volume of Air = Performance Benefit

Improved Throttle Response may Not affect Peak Figures - any little improvement here will be noticed by all but the most Numb drivers tho I'm sure the K&N will be Noticeable Improvement to all but the most Numb and those who expect similar results to remapping
