Default MG badge removal and replacing the surround...

Hi guys

I want to get the "MG" badge off the boot/spoiler on my Contemporary and replace it with a Rover one, I also want to replace the black number plate surround trim with the chrome one, which I have and putting the chrome 75 badge back at the bottom also.

My question is, is the MG badge stuck on, or something else? And how does the the number plate surround trim fit? I don't want to just pull it if it has clips or anything. Here's a pic so you can see the type of badge/spoiler it is...

Hi Dawn, the badge is fixed to the plinth with double sided tape, behind which there is a self tapping screw, this and the other two screws can be removed to remove the badge mounting.

The numberplate surround is removed by gently pulling outward, the securing pins are attached to the trim, and are pushed into plastic sockets which remain fastened to the metalwork of the boot.

If you are intending to remove the spoiler, in addition to the two M5 bolts which secure the numberplate lamp PCB, and the the two "screwit" fasteners the spoiler is secured to the boot lid with double sided tape, which can be difficult to remove without damaging the paint finish.

Finally, the "75" applique is secured with double sided tape.

It's all doable with patience and care

Have fun

Brian

Thanks Brian
I was going to just put the original boot back, but after cleaning it up I discovered it was damaged. I like the spoiler, but the octagonal MG badge takes the car's identity. Garages instantly assume its a ZT despite the grille badge lol.

I have got an octagonal Rover one made to replace it, so if its just tape it should be an easy swap, along with the chrome and chrome badge.

Thank you for all the information! I will wait for a warmer day so the new adhesive sticks!
