Default Oban Trip Last Weekend

Here are a couple of pics from our trip to Oban and Tobermory, aka Balamory, last weekend.

The weather was unbelievably warm when we got there.

The Oban to Mull ferry preparing to do it's "handbrake turn" into it's berth.

Sunset over Oban Bay.

"Balamory" from a higher and slightly different angle.

This is the floatplane which goes from Loch Lomond to Mull so I'm told. We saw it buzzing around regularly over the weekend.

Connel Bridge, Connel, where the tide meets Loch Etive and creates a somewhat frightening mass of whirlpools. There's nothing fast flowing, just the tide coming in and out.

A photo opportunity for the ZT at Connel. As if she needs one.

Red Kite at Doune (where the motor museum used to be). This is at a viewing centre where there were five of these beautiful birds circling, playing, diving and coming down to ground before our very eyes.

That was my weekend!

Very nice Colin, cracking photos there. Been about 5 years since I was last in Oban.........looks the same though. lol (was there a guy walking a dog in font of Woolies!).
It's a great run, some lovely scenery as well. Try the road to Portpatrick during the summer, that's a wee stoater.

I absolutely love Oban mate. I think we'll move there when we retire. That man wasn't there outside Woolies! He was outside McTavish's!!!

We certainly did. I'd recommend Oban to anyone. We've had about 90% good weather of all the times we've been, regardless of the season. But when it rains it rains. That special Scottish rain GG mentioned yesterday!!

That looks like the same Caledonian MacBrainless ferry I used to catch from Oban to Lochboisdale back in the 80s!

Thinking about it, it probably is!

Some cracking scenery up there. Many a good night in the Oban Inn. I think?!

Believe it or not, yes! We sat upstairs one night foot-tapping to a great band and lo-and-behold they were on some kids Saturday morning programme a week or two later! I was slightly aghast, to say the least. The drummer wore glasses and a fez, if that makes any difference?

Thanks Anna. A bit of advice - take the "Balamory" map because if you don't, you'll spend ages searching for the show houses. Also, one of the houses is now a different colour due to the owner being fed-up with people knocking at the door and asking to see Eadie McCreadie (I think).
Hope you all enjoy the trip.

It is a really great area Tim. If I had my way, I'd holiday out West for ever! I'm desparate to go "tenting" on Skye but SWMBO won't have it. She reckons the weather will go against us.
As for the Red Kites, they are actually German ones - they're apparently quite prolific over there.
