I have a problem with the door handle in that the connecting between the handle
and the lock has come adrift.
and brought plastic retaining clip (small spring) with it and as I have never done anything like this before I am a bit dubious to tackle it on my own

This happened to me, it's easier to renew the outer handle, than to try and fit the spring clip back in in situ. Contact the ne of the breakers, their names are bright blue, they will have one, make sure you ask for the connecting rod too. Speak to Cossie Dunc,Trikey,Holland 314, Flying Pig. The door handle is secured from outside,by two very small nuts,at the opening side of the handle, remove the chrome trim, you will see the nut,use a flat headed screwdriver to release the lhandle from the lock,at its rearmost part, this will allow the handle,to open wide,so,you can get at the other nut. It's easier if you can get someone to help.you,by holding things. Sounds complicated, but not really, when you look at it.

If you're really hopeless with the spammers, then pop along to a local.meet ,someone there will be bound to help you out.

Your thread is innthe wrong section,it needs to be in technical help,I have sent a message to a moderator,to move it for you,it will get more response in the correct section.
