Well, I've had the headgasket replaced as well, indeed. When I bought the car, the seller told me it had been done, but it turned out he lied (or it was done poorly). When the garage inspected (I switched garages and ended up in a Jaguar/Land Rover shop because they still employ someone that knows his way around the car) the car, they noticed it had gone, but only slightly so far. When they replaced the headgasket, they also replaced the timing belt so the water pump was done as well.
I guess the replacement isn't as good as the original then, if it's a recurring theme on 1.8s. Oh well, let's hope the new one will last me longer, then...

So seeing as it's useful, but not essential, I'll put it on the 'maybe later' list, hopefully the EU will see sense at some point and stop asking extortionate duties for goods from the UK.

Hi Erik,

You could instruct your garage to fit a genuine MG Rover/Land Rover water pump. They're still available and not particularly expensive.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind and I'll ask about it tomorrow during opening hours.
However, since they're listed among the European Service Centres on Xparts, I should hope they use genuine parts...

I can't speak for Belgium Erik but in my locality (Greater London) "all makes" garages order from motor factors and have aftermarket parts delivered by van within 24 hours, often the same day. Most of the time that's perfectly satisfactory. They'd have no reason to order MGR branded parts from X-Part which are likely to be more expensive (particularly with the current importing bureaucracy).

I hope that you get it sorted out.

I'm now no longer in an "all makes" garage, but switched to a Jaguar/Land Rover one and they confirmed yesterday they use genuine parts - which is also why it can take a while for parts to arrive. They didn't understand why the new pump had started leaking but they replaced at no cost so as far as I'm concerned that's all sorted.
I got my car back yesterday, emissions test now passed so I can fit the gold resistor now.

What kind of wires should I use for the tails? Is this anything specific or can I use a standard 0.75 mm²?
