Default low brake pad indicator

Hi all, last week noticed the low brake indicator light came on, turned car off, started it again no light?, 8 days later did the same thing again, if it was low pads would/should the warning light stay on all the time.....

Check the cables that go to the sensors, ( one front, one rear ) the wheels/driveshafte car rub up against them and wear through
