Default CDTi MGZT dies at 1000 revs.

Hello I need help please, my MGZT 1951cc Tourer was recovered to a Garage in B'Ham now starts perfect, prior to breakdown the vehicle run faultless now only ticks over and the revs to 950-1000 then cuts out, it seems like the injectors cut out. AA could not find fault garage cannot get it reving.
The car starts perfect its the BMW engine and the car is in excellent condition, ticks over perfect, then will gently rev to 1000 and then engine stops.I have car back home now everything has been replaced but still only tick over, help urgently needed. No codes now showing the original fault was when AA plugged in reader P0087 and P1089. Car is 2005 Reg. Regards,Rob.

Both fault codes are generic, not model specific:
P0087 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low
P1089 - may be a red herring as it refers to an oxygen sensor which the diesels don't have!

This might help:

Common problem when using a obd scanner is that it will not see some codes or wrongly report others.

If the MIL has come on it's down to either fuel pressure related or a badly out of spec maf, these are the two main culprits, the most likely from the symptoms decribed being the fuel pressure.

When the fuel pressure drops the ecu will cut the amount of fuelling to the injectors to protect the HP pump from damage. The engine will be unable to rev or may even cut out completely and will not be able to start until there is sufficient fuel pressure. If intermittant then more likely to be an electrical related issue, sticking in-tank pump, pressure sensor on the filter head or HP fuel rail sensor.

Fuel pressure issue I recon mate, get a live reading for the fuel pressure at the low side needs to be around 3.6bar for a two pump system or 4+ bar on a single, you will probably find it somewhere around 1.4/1.5 bar

Also check that the EGR valve isn't stuck open.

Give unplugging the maf a go as well.

Low fuel pressure probably logged as the car is cutting out.

Maybe but then again maybe not - you can get a low fuel pressure fault logged if you let the LP pumps time out before starting the engine.

OP mentioned the fault hasn't come back on since being cleared so could be another red herring.

Best way to check is to measure the pressures as Mickyboy said.
