Default Diesel engine mount

Hi all, my drivers side top engine mount is shot. Yet another job to add to the list

Is this mount the hydramount? I've used the search facility and the threads are not very conclusive and say you need a special tool to remove it. Does anyone have any advice on changing it?

Thanks in advance
Kev

Yes it is the Hydromount, you may need a special tool to remove it or you can cut the rubber up and get a chisel on it to spin it...

Just support the base of the engine and then unbolt the silver metal mounts... I am not sure if the dissie and the petrols have different units....

Thank you. Is all work done in the engine bay, or do I have to do anything from underneath?

Just support the oil pan, a bit of wood to spread the load and a trolley jack to take the weight when you loosen the mount, jack up the engine an inch to take the load off

I've also noticed my battery light flickers on every now and again, could this be something to do with the extra movement of the engine?

Sorry to be a pain asking so many questions but hopeful I'll be able to answer a few as well soon, especially given the amount of "experience" my car is giving me

Most probably a loose or corroded connection on the alternator, after that the commutator rings and brushes do wear out, finally the alternator itself can be damaged by oil spilt on the windings during oil changes or power steering leaks...

I would put a volt meter on the battery terminals, you want 13.5-14.5 volts with the engine running and about 12.8- 12.9 off

Remove and clean the Main live strap and the plug on the back and make sure everything is clean and dry first.

then if still an issue look at the brush pack on the back of the unit... there are how to's in the forum How to section

I've just changed the Hydramount, all work from above, apart from the engine support, but it's not made much of a difference to the vibration coming through into the cabin. I have driven the CDTI over 100,000 miles, it think I know the car so well I pick up on every 'querk' the car has! Other people don't notice the vibration. You'll need a stout bar about 18" long and a good lump hammer to unwind it, your welcome to my old Hydramount to try if you wish, PM your address it you want it.

Here is the 'how to' for the drivers side Hydramount

The diesel is different to the others and you can remove it with a
drift because it has a metal collar built into it. The diesel alone sits in a metal cup so you can pour some releasing fluid into it before you start.
