DeWalt battery terminal polarity?
I happen to have a mains/ battery DeWalt vacuum cleaner, which makes for a useful small vac, designed to also work from a DeWalt drill battery. It has a compartment into which the battery can be plugged.
I don't have such a battery, the battery socket polarity is not marked, but I know it can run on DC 12 to 18v. Could someone check such a battery with a meter and tell me which is positive and which the negative terminal please? __________ | ................. | | .....___ ......| | .....| = |...... | < terminal = | .... |... |...... | | .....| = | ......| < terminal = | .....___ ......| | ..................| | ..................| | ..................| | ..................| __________ Drill Chuck end I have seen a suggestion on the internet, that the terminal nearest the chuck, is the +ve. Anyone confirm that please?

Harry the +terminal is nearest to the little locating notch on the top of the battery or the side nearest the labels on the base if that makes it easier regard Allan

Is the positive terminal to the side of the battery, where the greatest bulk of the battery is? Or in this photo - http://jimlaurwilliams.org/wordpress...roduct1977.jpg Is it the terminal nearest the camera and slightly to the right? [EDIT] I wonder if you meant the labels in that photo of the battery, the one which says 'Rebuilt..'?

I've just tested my Dewalt cordless battery
Referring to the photo linked above - the two terminals at the top of the conning tower (for want of a better description) are surrounded by a square of yellow plastic - at the front of this square there is a small plastic block (which I believe Allan is referring to as the notch). The terminal closest to this is the + Or as you earlier thought - it would be at the chuck end of the drill, the end where the greatest bulk of the battery is, and the label that says rebuilt. |
