headlight self leveling

Pos I will give you sidelights only, only with pos ii you get dipped beam and the motor test...

the ignition lights are on so on postion11.. and even on position 1 with just the side lights on you can hear the motors working the headlight levelling

its the fact they do as they are meant to do..but not when the engine is started


so ..engine off...ignition in position 11..turn switch to dip beam.....headlights do the levelling

engine off..ignition in postion1 ..side lights only working, turn to dip beam...can hear motors working the levelling ( I know headlights do not work on that position)

start engine ...no matter what I do with switch no self levelling happens

Because its already happened when you got to pos ii.
It won't do it again with the engine running...

so go out to car..turn key ..engine starts ...switch on lights to dip beam...NO self levelling...and you think that is because I have went to position 11 of the ignition switch...how do I start the car with out doing that ??

however if I then switch everything off...key out...key back in ...turn to key to position 11...turn lights on...self levelling works

now I could then turn lights off.. take key out...key back in..start car..turn lights to dip beam...and no self levelling

could then...turn lights off..switch engine off (or even do that first ) ..take key out..key back in..turn key to position 11...turn lights on and self levelling works

could repeat this any number of times

Is the motor test noise there in both instances?

ok so mine is the same...

no key, side lights on - level motor test (not self levelling yet...)
Key 1, side lights on - level motor test
Key 11, side lights on - level motor test
Engine running , side lights, dipped lights, main beam - no motor test as self levelling is now on and has remained in the position it was in when the engine was last turned off... which is the correct level for the ground it is on...

so yours, like mine is normal

I do appreciate your input...but I think your not reading my posts fully and missing the crucial bit...they work perfectly so long as I DO NOT start the engine ...so its not the key position, it is not the fact a test noise is heard, they work as they should with the key in position 11 and will not work if you have the engine started

will try a remove the battery overnight and see if the gremlins move out

read my reply... mine do not move with the engine on either... this is normal.

turn the engine on, turn the lights on, jack the front of the car right up.
drop the jack quick and see if the lights move level as it settles
