You can use your Great Britain (GB) or Northern Ireland driving licence in all EU or European Economic Area (EEA) countries, and Switzerland, during stays of up to 12 months.

If you’re caught breaking the law, for example by a speed camera, the authorities can get the vehicle’s registered keeper’s details from DVLA.

You may need an international driving permit (IDP) to drive outside the EU or EEA.

Also just in case, don’t forget your EHIC card. As we will still be in the EU when we go.
Not got one ? Order on line takes about a week to arrive and they are free.

Hi Ian. I will be taking mine with me but normally we go through the self check booth. When you drive up to the barrier, it recognises your number plate, and on the screen on the side of the booth, comes your name (Hello Mr Coxson in my case) It then asks if this is you. Press yes. If you arrive early it it gives you a choice of going by an earlier shuttle, so we should all stick to to the time that we have been given. It will then print you a ‘hanger’ which will have a letter on it, A through to Z, say a letter D, this designation is for whatever time you train goes. You hang this on your mirror with the number facing outwards. Go and have a look at the so called ‘duty free’ area. There are television screens dotted around that you must keep your eyes on because your letter will appear on the screen telling you when to make a move to the passport area for check out and sometimes inspection. They usually wipe the door handles of your car and steering wheel for traces of drugs and explosives. You then go through to numbered lanes where you wait for the gate to open to go down to the shuttle to board.Hope this helps those who have not been on the shuttle before. Signpost tells you where to go when you have gone through the book in process. All aboard for the Calais express. The information board in each carriage will give you information in English and French, (spoken) and visual. It used to give you the speed that you were travelling at, around 90mph, but no longer does. 35 minutes later and you will be leaving for Holland. Happy journey to everyone.

Hi Jules. What do you mean by getting lost? Do you mean once you have booked into the shuttle area? You can’t. There are people about telling you where to go, and plenty of signs. Having said that, we may get there and they have had a change round because of security, but don’t worry, a man of the cloth should be ok. Just take your holy water with you in a flask. .
