Unfortunately just because a garage did it . doesn't mean its been done right , more often than not they do it wrong ?

Ours had failed about 20k down the line from a garage repair and found they had put in the wrong gasket for the liner heights on our car .

Sorry what’s the difference between combustion chamber and cylinder, water is sitting on top of piston, took the spark plug out and dipped it to find the water

From what you said, I'd try an inlet manifold gasket first. Not that difficult to fit, but a bit fiddly. I always fit the Rimmers IMG (#LKJ1001110) as they are a lot fatter and give a better seal imo.

thanks told him(my brother) this and he agrees that the gaskets he has been fitting are on the thin side, so he is going to order that one from rimmers and is also now looking for a runner just in case

FYI here's a comparison between the black Rimmer's IMG and a typical green type. Note how much fatter the Rimmer's one is:
